THE START

The race began on Monday the 21-th of august 2006. Allthough yesterday we had to find our way back to the hotel on our own, the organisers did not dare to do the same in the Monday morning Chennai traffic. So we took a taxi (of course a rickshaw) to the starting point, teh Bessant Nagar Beach. We were told that after the tsunami this beach was full of corpses. The press was eagerly waiting for us :

We had an Indian style organisation, not a swiss one, so we had to wait another 2 hours for the last rickshaws to arrive. Because we parked our rickshaw first int he yard of the hotel , so ours arrived last L Here are two other hungarian teams :

The race was on, the with the first few rickshaws allready on the road when I had to argue with the mechanics to get the spare engines off our backseat. On the first few meters two cameramen hopped into our rickshaw and travelled with us for the first 10 minutes. Right in the first minute I had to dodge another rickshaw coming in the opposite direction, when I realised tha we have to keep left. J
