FIRST DAY : 2006.08.21
After the start we followed the police escort car, but we lost it quite soon, so we drowe out of Chennai alone. Without a map we just followed the coastline southwards. At that time we were not acustomed to Indian trafic yet, so we have no photos, about this part of our journey. Out of town we saw several vilages with houses made from coconut palm tree leaves. These were the ones wiped out by the tsunami :
We visited a nice park ont he road, where we saw a shiva temple carved from huge molten rocks :
The gardner wasn’t really taking his job seriously :
It was an easy day, only the long wait before the start tired us. We were pretty soon at the first days hotel parking our rickshaw neatly :
We only drove
This was where we met the first south Indian temple it’s roof filled with statues and carvings. The priest showed us around, and we were blessed, getting a red mark on our forehead :
Next we walked into a park, with beautiful molten rocks. From the top we could view the beautiful, but abandoned sandy coastline of Tamil Nadu :
As the sun went down we headed for the next exit. A guard came int he opposite direction, and told us that the door is closed allready. Buti f we give him 50 rupees then he will open it. We didn’t like the blackmail, so we thanked him and climbed over the fence free of charge. The steet back to the hotel was full of small shops selling stone carvings, and statues. Joseph started shopping :
Tonight’s party was at a nerby farm, we were carried there on a lorry :
